Ollantaytambo & Cusco

These two cities were both the beginning and the end of my visit to the Incan Sacred Valley. We rushed through the visit in three days, trying to see everything but each for all of thirty minutes (or so it felt). I can’t wait to go back, these are amazing places with incredible beauty and natural power.

Cusco: The rain in dramatic fashion.
The rain made Ollantaytambo so green.
A granary hidden high on the hill.
Temple mount, overlooking the valley.
Everything comes alive with color now.
A swollen river held in check by walls.
Drainage control serving the same purpose.
Inside the temple, the mountain in back.
The town in the valley, from halfway up.
From the top, a long view up the valley.
It was a majestic place in the rain.
Down the valley, the sun began to rise.
With the sun the town below came alive.
From our hotel, views of mountains and sky.
The high road back to Cusco at sunset...
...offered some amazing views from the car.
Cusco's plaza at night, two twin structures.
In this, a different kind of reflection.
Beyond the plaza: hill in the distance.
Dramatic views all around: rocks and sky.
Cusco again on a sunnier day.
Details like I had never seen before.
The writing in the rocks is history.
Religion winning the valley below.
